At Fairalls, we can trace our origins and history back to 1900 when George Fairall started excavating sand for bricklaying at Taylors Hill Sandpit, Godstone.

This sand was delivered to a wide variety of locations, initially by horse and cart, progressing to lorries as the years went on. Rather than letting the lorries return to the sandpit empty, it became commonplace to salvage demolition materials in the form of old bricks, timbers etc. from Croydon and the surrounding areas and bring these materials back to the sandpit for stock to be re-sold. When you have sand and bricks for sale, it only needs cement and lime to be added before the transformation into a builders’ merchant takes place. Sand extraction ceased in the 1980s. Today, as well as the old sandpit at Taylors Hill (which is one of the largest builders’ merchants depots in the south east), Fairalls trades from locations in Godstone High Street (our main office and light side depot) and also depots at Gatwick and Sevenoaks, alongside our online store delivering throughout most of Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

In July 2019, Fairalls entered into partnership with Cairngorm Capital LLP, joining Cairngorm Capital’s other building merchant brands, Parkers Building Supplies and Stamco, to create the largest independent builders’ merchant in the South East.

We’re delighted to have entered into partnership with Cairngorm Capital LLP, joining their other building merchant brands, Parkers Building Supplies and Stamco, to create the largest independent builders’ merchant in the South East.
